Russian Folk Dance Takes Centre Stage at SPAA

SHARJAH, 15 February 2025 — Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) recently hosted a vibrant Russian Folk Dance Masterclass as part of the Global Dance Overture cultural and educational project for BRICS countries.


Led by Irina Rubtsova, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, and joined by graduates of the Governorate Ballet School (affiliated with the Kostroma Russian National Ballet), the event brought together students and dancers from over ten countries, celebrating unity through the art of movement.


The session introduced participants to the rich traditions and expressive techniques of Russian folk dance, featuring live demonstrations and an engaging workshop where SPAA students learnt and performed traditional steps.


The cultural exchange concluded with a collaborative “Round Dance of Friendship”, symbolising creativity, connection, and cultural understanding across borders.


SPAA’s Executive Director, Peter Barlow, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, highlighting the Academy’s commitment to fostering international partnerships through the performing arts.
