Dance Students at SPAA Take Part in Masterclass with Dance On Ensemble’s Emma Lewis

Sharjah – 9 November 2025

Dance students at the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) experienced a rare opportunity to learn from international professional Emma Lewis, a member of the renowned Dance On Ensemble, during an intensive masterclass inspired by the company’s acclaimed production Mellowing.

The four-hour session, held on 9 November at SPAA, followed the Ensemble’s performance of Mellowing, a poetic exploration of motion and presence by Greek choreographer Christos Papadopoulos.

Led by Emma Lewis, the masterclass began with a dynamic physical and sensorial warm-up, encouraging students to explore both the internal and external dimensions of space. Drawing from Mellowing, participants examined the relationship between body, space, and collective movement, while developing presence, intention, and awareness through professional-level choreography.

This visit was made possible thanks to the support of the Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi and the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, who jointly invited SPAA students to attend the performance and covered the ticket costs.

This collaboration between SPAA and the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, which presented the performance in the UAE and engaged the dancer Emma Lewis for the masterclass with the dance students, underscores the Academy’s commitment to providing its students with exceptional opportunities to engage with professional artists and companies from around the world.
